What's a criterium? According to the Cycling NSW site,- Criteriums are massed start, high-speed bicycle race events in which riders race around multiple laps of a closed circuit racecourse to compete for order of finish. Criteriums are usually held on closed public streets. The racecourse is normally up to three kilometres in length.
